A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating WhatsApp Communities

WhatsApp

WhatsApp rolled out its communities feature just last year, allowing various groups, such as neighborhood associations, parent-teacher groups, and workplace teams, to unite under a single banner for seamless group discussions within the app.

This new feature empowers users to create a WhatsApp community consisting of up to 100 groups. Within this community, a special section called “Community Announcements” is automatically generated. This section serves as a dedicated platform for community administrators to easily broadcast messages to all community members. Recently, they also released a feature to use two WhatsApp accounts in one mobile.

How to create a community on WhatsApp

  1. Navigate to the Communities tab.
  2. Click on “New community.”
  3. Enter the community’s name, and feel free to add a brief description and a custom community icon.
  4. Click the checkmark symbol to confirm.

Some important points to keep in mind:

  • The community name must not exceed 100 characters.
  • Your description should offer potential members a clear understanding of your community’s purpose.
  • You can personalize your community by adding an icon. Choose from options like taking a photo, uploading an image, using emojis and stickers, or searching the web for an appropriate image. Once set, this icon will appear next to your community in the Chats tab.

In addition to these existing features, WhatsApp is actively working on enhancing communication within communities. Currently available for Android beta testers, the platform, owned by Meta, is introducing a new feature called “general group chat” for communities. You can read about how to run six WhatsApp profiles on a single Android device.

This feature introduces a fresh group chat within communities, enabling community members to engage in conversations with one another. Upon joining a community, individuals may automatically become part of this general group chat, similar to the existing process for the community announcement group.

To check if this feature is accessible for your WhatsApp account, simply create a new community and explore the enhanced communication options it offers.

WhatsApp recently released multiple features like Sharing Screens on WhatsAppSharing HD Photos on WhatsApp, a Video Messaging Feature for iPhone Users and Group video calls using WhatsApp on Mac.
