Indian phone vendors might release $30 Android Oreo Go smartphones from January

We had earlier reported on Google’s plan to launch a lighter version of the Android Oreo called Android Oreo Go to let the budget smartphone users to have a hands on its latest operating system. According to several sources, the Indian smartphone manufacturers like Karbonn, Lava, Intex and Micromax will be among the first ones to launch the cheap smartphones which are based on Android Oreo Go.

The word in town is that the Micromax might soon launch an Android Oreo Go smartphone at Rs 2000 ( $31 ) by the end of this month followed by other manufacturers in the weeks after that. The price is quite surprising as the average price of a 4G smartphone is $100 (Rs 6400).

There are also rumors that the Micromax might launch this smartphone in the Republic Day week in India. However, the company has not commented officially regarding it so far. A Google spokesperson who wanted to stay anonymous said that the company is expecting to see the Android Oreo Go devices in the market in the early 2018.

The Google Official said,

As more users come online for the first time, the number of entry-level Android devices available has been rising quickly, and is expected to make up a much larger percentage of all smartphone sales going forward. Given the acceleration, we thought it is time to take our investment to the next level.

The CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai had quoted during his visit to India last year that the price of entry-level smartphones should come down to $30 in India.
