Samsung officially launched its Gear Virtual Reality (VR) headset and Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch in India. The Gear S2 Smartwatch’s price starts from 24,300 and is available in two variants whereas the Gear VR headset will be available at Rs. 8200. These two devices that were launched last year globally will be available very soon to Indian customers through Flipkart.
Samsung Gear S2 sports a 1.2 inch display with a 360x360p resolution and uses a Super AMOLED panel. The watch bears a rotating dial, which can be used to navigate or select through menus and apps. In addition to that, there are two buttons on the right side of the watch that work as home and back buttons. The device is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and 512 MB RAM and has an internal storage of 4 GB. The Gear S2 boasts connectivity features of NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 and is powered by a 250 mAh battery. It is supportable by all Samsung devices that run on Android 4.3 and above with a 1.5 GB RAM and other branded devices that run on Android 4.4 and above with a 1.5 GB of RAM.
Unlike other headsets, Samsung’s Gear VR headset doesn’t have a display. Instead, users will have to insert their Samsung smartphones into the slots provided in the VR Headsets to use them as displays. The device that weighs 318 grams provides a 96 degree field of view in the Headset. The VR device is packed with its own set of sensors like Proximity Sensor, accelerometer and Gyroscope. Samsung Gear VR is said to be compatible only with Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and the S6 Edge+. This VR gadget by Samsung is expected to work well with games and not for other experiences.
