How to share passwords, passkeys on iPhone with your friends and family

Here’s how to share passwords on iPhone with friends

1. Ensure iCloud Keychain is enabled: Before you can share passwords, make sure iCloud Keychain is enabled on your device. Go to “Settings” > [Your Name] > “iCloud” > “Keychain” and toggle on the “iCloud Keychain” switch.

2. Add passwords to iCloud Keychain: Save the passwords you want to share in your iCloud Keychain. You can do this by using Safari’s built-in password manager or by going to “Settings” > “Passwords” & “Accounts” > “Website & App Passwords” and adding passwords there.

3. Share a password: To share a password or passkey, follow these steps:

  • Open “Settings” on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap on “Passwords” & “Accounts”.
  • Tap on “Website & App Passwords”.
  • Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
  • Find the entry for the password you want to share and tap on it.
  • Tap on the username field or password field.
  • A suggestion bar will appear above the keyboard. Tap on the suggestion for sharing the password.
  • You’ll be prompted to choose the person you want to share the password with from your contacts. You can also choose to send an AirDrop request.

4. Accept a shared password: If someone shares a password with you, you’ll receive a notification. Follow these steps to accept the shared password:

  • Open “Settings” on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap on “Passwords” & “Accounts”.
  • Tap on “Website & App Passwords”.
  • Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
  • Find the entry for the password you want to share and tap on it.
  • Tap on the username field or password field.
  • A suggestion bar will appear above the keyboard. Tap on the suggestion for sharing the password.
  • You’ll be prompted to choose the person you want to share the password with from your contacts. You can also choose to send an AirDrop request.
