The term VoWifi has been trending all over the Internet now a days. However, so far this feature of calling over Wi-Fi has been rolling out only for Airtel and Jio users on selected smartphones. So, let’s see how to enable VoWifi on Nokia smartphones. The prerequisites for a smartphone to use VoWifi is that it should have Wi-Fi Calling Capability and 4G VoLTE SIM (Jio) or 4G SIM (Airtel).
Recently, in past few weeks we have seen that several OEMs started rolling out Wi-Fi Calling feature for their smartphones in India. Following the trend, today the HMD Global has officially announced that finally after successful testing of voice over any Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi), they are also enabling this feature on a range of Nokia smartphones for Airtel and Jio users in India.
VoWifi:
VoWiFi is a new technology that allows users to receive and make calls over a Wi-Fi network. The full form of VoWiFi is Voice over Wi-Fi and this feature helps the delivery of telephone services using Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies from mobile devices connected across Wi-Fi.
Steps on How to enable VoWiFi on Nokia smartphones
Step 1: Tap on the settings
Step 2: Look for Wi-Fi calling feature
Step 3: Tap on it to enable Wi-Fi calling option
Step 4: Switch on both VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling option
Step 5: Then connect to a Wi-Fi network
Step 6: Now you can start making Wi-Fi calls anywhere in India the same you do general voice calls.
Step 7: For best quality calling your phone will automatically toggle between Wi-Fi and cellular network
The company HMD commented on the Wi-Fi calling:
The Wi-Fi calling feature will let users make calls directly from their smartphone to any other mobile or landline via a Wi-Fi network and without the use any third-party app. Moreover, as users move from Wi-Fi into a non-Wi-Fi location, the call is seamlessly moved to their telecom network. This is great news especially for users who face network coverage and quality issues indoors. Moreover, users on the above Nokia smartphones can also make Vo-Wi-Fi calls to a person who doesn’t have the feature enabled on their phone.
