Please note that the method which is going to be shared here works only for the Android devices as the WhatsApp messages on iOS devices are saved to iCloud and not the Google Drive.
Follow the steps mentioned below to backup WhatsApp data manually to Google Drive:
- Launch WhatsApp and go to Settings > Chats and tap on the three dots which is situated at the top-right of the screen.
- Select Chat Backup menu and choose any other option than “Never” in the pop-up screen.
- Choose the Google account you want to use for the backup from the “Account” option. You will be able to choose either an existing account or a new account.
- That’s it. If you have chosen ‘Only When I tap Back Up’ option, then you will have to go to the Chat Backup menu and tap on BackUp every time to back up the messages.
One of the best things about backing up your WhatsApp data to Google Drive storage is that it will not depend on your overall Google Storage plan.
