There is no doubt that the Indian Government is not very happy about the fake news getting spread via platforms like WhatsApp. To be good with the government, the WhatsApp has rolled out a new forward message limit to only five chats. This is going to affect all the 200 million users in the country.

The messaging service that is owned by the Facebook launched a test last month to test this new message forward limit to only five chats in India.

The company said in a statement,

“The limit has started to appear this week for people in India who are on the current version of WhatsApp.”

Additionally, the company has also published a latest video to instruct its users by saying that it is intensifying user education campaign on how to find fake news and hoaxes.

The company continued to say,

“This week, WhatsApp is publishing a new video that explains the importance of the ‘forward’ label and calls users to ‘double check the facts when you’re not sure who created the original message.”

As per the statistics, people in India forward more videos, photos and messages than any other users in the rest of the world. Across all countries, WhatsApp allows users to forward messages to up to 20 conversations (either groups or individuals).

The statement also says,

“We are deeply committed to your safety and privacy which is why WhatsApp is end-to-end encrypted, and we’ll continue to improve our app with features like this one.”
