ASUS ROG Phone 8 and Phone 8 Pro specifications

ASUS has recently unveiled its latest gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 8, at CES 2024 following a wave of rumors. Featuring a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED HDR 1-120Hz LTPO display with a 165Hz refresh rate option for optimal gaming, the device boasts up to 2500 nits peak brightness and it is powered with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

Despite a 15% reduction in thickness and weight, along with slimmer bezels, ASUS emphasizes that the performance, premium design, and durability have not been compromised.

The phone incorporates a Rapid-Cooling Conductor design as part of the advanced GameCool 8 thermal system, efficiently channeling heat from the processor to the back cover. Furthermore, the all-new AeroActive Cooler X clip-on cooler, 29% smaller than its predecessor, promises 1.2X higher thermal efficiency, leading to a temperature reduction of up to 26°C on the back cover.

Equipped with a 50 MP main camera featuring a Sony sensor, a 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 3.0, a 13 MP ultrawide camera, and, for the first time, a 32MP 3X telephoto lens with built-in OIS, the ROG Phone 8 offers enhanced photography capabilities. ASUS claims the device preserves intricate details in photos, delivering clearer images even at 30X zoom. The telephoto camera employs adaptive EIS during video shooting, ensuring stable results at up to 10X zoom. The front-facing 32 MP ultrawide selfie camera, equipped with an RGBW sensor, offers an increased field of view from 73° to 90°.

Gamers can seamlessly transition games to the background with Background Mode, capture crucial moments with X Capture, and utilize features like Al Grabber for text capture and X Sense for helpful tips. Al Grabber now employs Machine-Learning Recognition technology to directly capture text from games. Additionally, Semantic Search using natural language is integrated into the Gallery, Launcher, and Settings.

The ROG Phone 8 series introduces customizable elements such as the Aura RGB Lighting logo and Anime Vision Mini-LED 341-element display. This display can showcase preset or user-created animations, and users can unlock secret animations by touching their phones back-to-back with another ROG Phone 8 Pro/Pro Edition. ASUS claims the device is the world’s first IP68-compliant gaming smartphone, designed to resist dust and water ingress.

The phone is equipped with a dual-cell 5,500mAh battery, slightly smaller than the Phone 7’s 6000mAh battery. Nevertheless, it supports 65W HyperCharge fast charging for a full charge in just 39 minutes and features 15W Qi wireless charging.
