OnePlus Open with 7.82″ foldable and 6.31″ 120Hz LTPO OLED displays launched in India for Rs. 1,39,999

OnePlus Open launched

OnePlus has officially unveiled the OnePlus Open in India, marking the company’s foray into the foldable phone market, as previously promised. This innovative device boasts a 7.82-inch foldable 2K OLED screen featuring a 1-120Hz LTPO panel, an impressive peak brightness of up to 2,800 nits, Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG), and an external 6.3-inch FHD+ OLED screen that supports a 10-120Hz (LTPO) refresh rate and employs ceramic guard technology.

Both the primary and secondary screens offer ProXDR and 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. Remarkably, OnePlus has received TÜV Rheinland’s “reliable folding” certification, attesting that the phone’s foldable mechanism can endure up to 1,000,000 or 1 million folds.

In terms of construction, the OnePlus Open employs cobalt molybdenum alloy and titanium alloy, enhancing its durability and reducing weight when compared to current foldable phones that utilize 316L surgical-grade stainless steel. The hinge’s spine plate is crafted from a zirconium-based amorphous alloy, which is twice as robust as surgical-grade stainless steel, offering exceptional wear and scratch resistance.

To maintain a slim and lightweight profile, OnePlus incorporates the Flexion hinge, designed in a “water-drop” shape, reducing the number of hinge components from approximately 100 to just 69. When unfolded, the phone’s body measures a mere 5.8mm in thickness, while it expands to 11.7mm when folded. The glass variant weighs 245g, while the leather version tips the scales at 239g. Additionally, the OnePlus Open features a convenient alert slider.

The phone introduces Sony’s innovative LYTIA “Pixel Stacked” 48MP sensor for the first time in the foldable smartphone segment. OnePlus asserts that the camera quality is on par with the renowned 1-inch Sony IMX989. Complementing this sensor is a 48MP OV64B 3X telephoto sensor, featuring 6x in-sensor zoom and up to 120x digital zoom, as well as a 48MP Ultra-Wide Camera, all supporting 4K 60 fps video recording. For selfies and video calls, the device is equipped with 32MP outer and 20MP inner front cameras, both of which also support 4K 30 fps video recording.

Operating on OxygenOS 13.2, the OnePlus Open guarantees users four years of major Android version upgrades and an impressive five years of security updates. The device introduces “Open Canvas,” a feature specifically developed to enhance everyday productivity by maximizing efficiency on its expansive screen. Notably, around 95% of mainstream apps are compatible with the larger display. Open Canvas allows for seamless multi-window operations and split-screen use without the constraints of the physical screen size. Users can display up to three app windows simultaneously, in either vertical or horizontal orientation. Moreover, the phone now permits saving up to nine multi-app presets for instant access to preferred multi-app workspace setups.

Under the hood, the OnePlus Open is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and offers a generous 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM coupled with 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. To maintain optimal performance, the phone includes a source-focused heat dissipation system, and it boasts IPX4 ratings for splash resistance.

The device is powered by a 4805mAh battery and supports 67W fast charging, which can replenish the battery to 100% in just 42 minutes. It’s worth noting that the OnePlus Open does not support wireless charging capabilities.

Commenting on the launch, Kinder Liu, President and COO of OnePlus, said:

The word ‘Open’ not only represents a new folding form factor, but also our openness to explore new possibilities allowed by bleeding-edge tech-solutions on the market. OnePlus Open provides unparalleled hardware, innovative software features and services built around the new form factor, continuing to live up to OnePlus’s Never Settle belief. With the launch of OnePlus Open, we are thrilled to be bringing an uncompromising flagship foldable experience to users worldwide. The OnePlus Open will be a true flagship that is set to revolutionize the foldable market.
