Only Windows 10 to be available in the future CPUs

Microsoft announced that it will support only Windows 10 in all the next generation processors built by Qualcomm, AMD and Intel that includes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820, AMD’s Bristol Ridge and Intel’s Kaby Lake processors.

The company is also in plans to remove its Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 support for Intel’s Skylake processors. Certain devices with Skylake processors will continue to get the support till July, 2017 though.

This announcement doesn’t mean that Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 8 and Windows 7. Because, the support for Windows 8 will go on till January, 2023 and support for Windows 7 won’t stop until January 2020.

Terry Myerson, Windows and Devices chief said, “As new silicon generations will be introduced, they will require the latest Windows platform at that time for support.” He also said that focusing only on the latest Windows platform will help the company “to focus on deep integration between Windows and the silicon”.

Only Windows 10 to be available in the future CPUs Desktop

We had earlier reported that Windows 10 is the fastest Operating System from the family of Microsoft to attain 200 million users in a short span of time by overtaking Windows 8 by 400% and Windows 7 by nearly 140% to achieve the feat.

According to the statistics, around 90% of the users use Windows as their Operating System, but only around 10% among them are Windows 10 users. Therefore Microsoft is in the pursuit of adding more numbers to the list of Windows 10 users. In the past, the company also started providing Windows 10 as a free upgrade to the Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 users. In a way, it helps the company to develop advanced features for each corresponding processor.

Although it would affect small business firms, this move by Microsoft will be responsible for an evolutionary change in the PC world as Windows 10 is known to bring true convergence across the devices.
