WhatsApp Group Voice and Video Calling features now rolling out for Android and iOS users

WhatsApp Group Voice and Video Calling

The WhatsApp Group Voice and Video calling feature is long overdue and now finally WhatsApp is rolling out this feature for both Android and iOS Users today. The news about this feature came back in May 2018 when they found testing it. Although, this feature is available on several other apps, it will be interesting to see this feature on WhatsApp also. As, of now the Group call can be done with only up to four people.

How WhatsApp Group Voice and Video calling works:

  • Start a one-on-one voice or video call.
  • On the top right corner tap the new “Add Participant” button, to add participants
  • Using Add participant you can also search for or select another contact you want to add to the call
  • The incoming WhatsApp voice or video call screen will show the participants currently on the call. To let you know the first contact list will be the participant that added you.
  • You can’t remove a participant during a group voice/video call. The contact would need to hang up their phone to disconnect from the call.
  • You can tap the call history to view the individual call history from the Group voice/video call.
  • The Group voice/video is call is possible with participants whom you’ve blocked. But, you would not be able to add a contact to the ongoing call that you’ve blocked or a contact that has blocked you.
  • You won’t be able to switch the call to a video call during a group voice call.
  • You have the option to turn your camera off by tapping the Turn off camera icon during a group video call.

Recently, the news came that WhatsApp Security flaw could let anyone enter group chats despite end-to-end encryption. But, WhatsApp have fixed this issue and said that group calls are end-to-end encrypted, similar to the messages. The voice and video calling feature of WhatsApp has been designed to work reliably around the world in different network conditions. It should be available for both Android and iOS users over the next few days.
