Last year Samsung had provided the list of Samsung smartphone that going to get Android 8.0 (Oreo) update. Now, they have started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for Samsung Galaxy Note8. The Android Oreo update replaces the older older 8.5 version and brings Samsung Experience 9.0. Along with Android Oreo this update also brings new features based on users suggestions.
The update has included the March security patch and it comes with firmware version N950FXXU3CRC1, is about 1.47GB in size. The company has also promised that all the Note 8 and Galaxy S8/+ devices will also get the Oreo update within the next 2-3 weeks.
New features with the Android 8.0 update for Samsung Galaxy Note 8:
Home Screen
- For supported apps now you can touch and hold an app to display shortcuts to common or recommended tasks within the app
- You can now clear a notification in one location and it will be cleared at other location, as now notification badges on app icons are linked with the notification panel.
Quick Panel
- For supported apps now manage notifications for each app with notification categories.
- For notifications that are not currently visible now icons will be shown at the bottom of the notification panel
Lock Screen and Always On Display
- New clock styles for the Lock screen and Always On Display.
- Notifications transparency adjustment to get the look you want.
Smart View
- When mirroring to another screen let your phone’s screen go dark
Edge screen
- Improved color, font size and other settings for better Edge panel visibility.
- Touch and hold the Edge panel handle to change its position.
- Added 3 more Edge lighting effects and color customization for apps.
Samsung Keyboard
- The keyboard are having more high contrast
- The toolbar gives quick access to useful functions.
- The GIF keyboard lets you send GIFs.
Samsung account
- Control your profile information and account settings for multiple apps.
- To access your profile information and account settings. Now, you need to just tap your profile picture on the main Settings page.
Samsung DeX
- Change the app list view to full-screen to see more apps at once.
- For a full-screen gaming experience, use Game launcher in Samsung DeX.
- Added support for 2 additional Samsung covers (Clear View Standing Cover and LED View Cover).
Samsung Cloud
- Samsung Cloud Drive can store any type of file.
- Select specific items to restore or delete from your backups.
- See the size of each backup is and how many items it contains.
- View and manage photos and notes stored only in Samsung Cloud.
System Performance
- To improve performance and battery life Background services are limited now.
- The notification panel will always show the currently running apps
Find My Mobile
- When your phone is lost you can back up Secure Folder remotely in Samsung Cloud.
- Using Find My Mobile now you can Lock Samsung Pass.
Biometrics
- If you’re using biometrics now without a secure screen lock type, you’ll be able to continue after the upgrade, but it is recommended to change to a secure screen lock type. To improve your security, features that use biometrics like face unlock, fingerprints and irises are only available when you use a secure screen lock type (pattern, PIN, or password). Biometric authentication is suspended for unlocking and for verification in apps like Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass, when you switch to a non-secure screen lock type (Swipe or None),
Other improvements
- The digital clock widget goes directly to the Clock app when you tap it.
- Clock now includes a Landscape mode and timer sound options.
- Bluetooth now supports high-quality audio codecs, including AAC and Sony LDAC.
- Voice Recorder provides smart tips to conveniently block calls while recording.
- Video player includes auto repeat and 2x speed option.
- Email lets you flag Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync emails.
- Samsung Pass added the ability to manage usernames and passwords in third-party apps.
- Integrated LinkedIn content will no longer be shown in Email, Calendar, or Contacts.
- Samsung Health’s new sticky notification lets you see your step count at a glance.
We recommend that you back up your important data to keep it safe during the Android Oreo upgrade. You should also update some apps individually before you can update your OS, including Samsung Pay, Samsung Internet, Samsung Notes, and Email.
