Google Assistant in Hindi on Android now, coming to iPhone soon

Today Google has officially rolled out the Hindi support in Google Assistant for all users on Android in India. The users having Android device with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above will be able to use this feature for few selected Hindi queries for now. They have also confirmed that the, Hindi support feature in Google Assistant will be soon available to Android 5.0 Lollipop, Android Oreo (Go edition) devices as well as for iPhones (iOS 9.1 and above) users.

It is known that the Google is working on the non-English speakers online. This update will be helpful for those users who can’t understand English. During its Make for India event, Google had announced that it will introduce Hindi Assistant in its Smart messaging app. Last year they had rolled out the Hindi Assistant in Google Allo, along with the promise that the users will also be able to use the Smart Reply feature in Hindi.

To respond the results for Hindi queries properly the Google Assistant is powered by Machine learning, computer vision and uses a mix of natural language understanding user context, which helps it to understand intent behind words to handle follow-up questions.

Google says:

“And it’ll get better over time — with your permission, it can learn your preferences, your likes and your dislikes — all done in a private, secure way that puts you in control,”

Google has built a dedicated site assistant.google.com to highlight what Hindi commands you can use in the Google Assistant app.

Purvi Shah, Technical Program Manager, Google Assistant said:

The Google Assistant is truly Indian, it’s your helpful dost that speaks our language and understands the things you care about, from finding biryani recipes, to pulling up the latest cricket score, or finding directions to the nearest ATM. In order to make it even more useful to Indians over time, developers and businesses can now build Actions for the Hindi Assistant through the developer platform Actions on Google. Once an action is built, you can just say “Ok Google, talk to” and access the service or content straight through your Google Assistant.

Google has also provided the Developer platform Actions on Google that let Developers and businesses to build Actions for the Hindi Assistant.
