Vivo APEX FullView Concept Smartphone with half-screen fingerprint scanning feature and 98% screen-to-body ratio announced today

Vivo APEX

Today Vivo has announced the APEX FullView Concept Smartphone with half-screen fingerprint scanner. It is expected to have 98% screen-to-body ratio if the bottom bezel reaches 1.8mm, ultimately creating a truly bezel-less experience. Last month Vivo had introduced the first smartphone with in-display optical fingerprint feature at the CES 2018 event.

Vivo had released the X20 Plus UD smartphone with the industry first mass produced In-Display fingerprint scanning feature. But, APEX is the first mobile in the world that has the Half-Screen Fingerprint Scanning Technology. The idea here is that instead of placing your finger on a thumbnail-sized icon to unlock the phone, you’ll be able to do so in a much larger area of the display i.e. around half of the complete screen. It features slim top and side bezels at 1.8mm and a 4.3mm bottom bezel which is the thinnest in the industry.

APEX full view display has been transformed into a speaker using the Vivo Screen SoundCasting Technology. The Screen SoundCasting Technology does not need a traditional loudspeaker because it sends vibrations through the display. Thus, it also conserves power, reduces sound leakage, and optimizes low to high pitch sound for a better and more balanced audio experience.

As, far as camera is concerned the APEX features an 8MP Elevating front camera which seamlessly pop-up in 0.8 seconds. It retracts as well after use. We expect the in-screen fingerprint sensor has been made by Sensor Company Synaptics, since it is an OLED screen. Sine, there would not be home button breaking up your screen space, and no scrabbling your finger on the back of phone it going to be in high demand.

Commenting on the same, Alex Feng, Senior Vice President of Vivo said

APEX is an iteration of our constant pursuit of setting new industry standards and to deliver the ultimate mobile experience. From breakthroughs in audio, photography to In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology, Vivo has remained committed to realizing our vision for future smartphones. What we showcase in this concept phone is only a fraction of our innovation pipeline. We will continue to explore all possibilities to bring the best possible experiences to our consumers.
