WhatsApp users sent 20 billion messages on New Year’s Eve only in India

Although, popular messaging service, WhatsApp went down for a while as usual during this New Year time as well. This is not the first time where the app has gone down on a New Year day. However, the company announced that despite it was down users in India sent more than 20 billion message on New Year’s Eve.

WhatsApp said in a press statement.

“New Year’s Eve was WhatsApp’s biggest messaging day ever, closing out a successful year for the company that included the introduction of several new features,”

In India, there are more than 200 million users out of the total billion plus users. The app went down a few minutes later after the midnight during the Happy New Year 2018 time in the country. The WhatsApp users from other countries have also faced similar issue and they expressed the same on their social media platforms.

While 2017 saw many happening news by the world’s most popular messaging service like they confirmed this news via a post on its official blog that WhatsApp support on smartphones will be ending from several outdated big brands. It means that the WhatsApp support on smartphones that run on Windows Phone 8.0 , Blackberry 10 and BlackBerry OS will end on December 31, 2017.. There were also multiple updates released by the company like WhatsApp introduces Live Location Sharing for iOS and Android and also released the exciting feature to recall messages on WhatsApp. This feature is available for users on iOS, Android and Windows Phone users in the name of ‘Delete for Everyone’. However, it will work only if both the sender and the recipient of the conversation have the latest version of the WhatsApp installed in their device.

The WhatsApp also made a new record globally with more than 75 billion messages that includes 13 billion images and 5 billion videos sent by its users.
