WhatsApp support on smartphones will be ending from several outdated big brands

The popular messaging app WhatsApp will stop its support on smartphones from several outdated big brands by the end of this year. The app which is owned by Facebook confirmed this news via a post on its official blog. It means that the WhatsApp support on smartphones that run on Windows Phone 8.0 , Blackberry 10 and BlackBerry OS will end on December 31, 2017.

For those of you who are owning a smartphone that runs on any of these mentioned operating systems will not be able to use the WhatsApp. The company initially announced this news in last year, but the deadline was updated to June 30, 2017, which was later extended to December 31, 2017. And this time, the company doesn’t seem to be in mood for an extension.

WhatsApp said on its blog.

This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone or Windows Phone before the end of 2017 to continue using WhatsApp.

Listed below are the Mobile Operating System on which the WhatsApp cannot be supported from New Year 2018.

  • Android versions older than 2.3.3
  • Windows Phone 7
  • iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
  • Nokia Symbian S60

Currently, there is no way to transfer the chat history across the mobile platforms, however you can transfer the chat by using the back and restore the service in case if you are upgrading the smartphone within the existing platform. If you still want to transfer the chat history to another platform, you can do so by exporting the chat history.
