How to format internal SSD or HDD on Windows 10

Every computer user faces the stage of formatting their internal hard disk at least once in their lifetime. The reason could be due to malware or viruses attacking your PC, you don’t really know. All you would know in such situations is that your system is slower and it is eating your brain. Even if you update the virus definitions, you might be forced to perform a disk format. Here in this article, we are going to guide you on how to format internal SSD or HDD on Windows 10 Operating System.

How to format internal SSD or HDD on Windows 10?

Step 1:

Search for ‘Disk Management’ after opening the Start Menu followed by choosing ‘Create and Format Hard disk partitions’ that will be listed in ‘Control Panel’.

Step 2:

You will be able to perform either partitions or formats of your disk here. Select the Volume Drive from the list by right clicking on it and choose ‘Format’ from the drop down list. The Windows Operating System allows you to format any disk without affecting the other disk. However, you must keep in mind that the data which gets formatted cannot be retrieved back.

Step 3:

After completing the Step 1 and Step 2, you will have to then select correct settings before formatting your drive. You must be able to see around 5 options here. ‘Volume Label’ among them will allow you to choose the name for your drive. Although you can name them as you wish, I’d like to go by the default names – C, D and E.

The second option will allow you to choose the File System. Windows uses ‘NTFS’, so it is very mandatory that you also select the same for all the drives. Do not disturb the ‘Allocation unit size’, leave it as default.

It would be better if you’d uncheck ‘Enable File and Folder Compression’ and ‘Perform a Quick Format’. Finally click on ‘OK’ after confirming the settings once again.

Step 4:

Windows will then warn you by displaying the consequences of formatting a hard drive. Click on ‘OK’ when you want to carry on the format process.

That’s it. This will initiate the format process on your hard disk. Let us know if this way works for you by commenting in the comments section below.
