Google Earth VR for HTC Vive

Google rolled out a Virtual Reality version of Google Earth for HTC Vive. You can download it for free from the Steam VR store.

At present, the Earth VR features selected destinations and tours which will allow you to explore the Swiss Alps, the Grand Canyon, the Manhattan Skyline, Amazon River and much more. Currently, the Google Earth VR app is available only for the users of HTC Vive VR headset users. To feel the experience of the Google Earth in Virtual Reality, the users will have to click and drag using the HTC Vive Controller.

Mike Podwal, the product Manager at Google wrote in blog post:

Ten years ago, Google Earth began as an effort to help people everywhere explore our planet. And now, with more than two billion downloads, many have. Today, we are introducing Google Earth VR as our next step to help the world see the world. With Earth VR, you can fly over a city, stand at the top of the highest peaks, and even soar into space.

Google is already in plans to make the Earth VR app available to other VR headsets in the future. As the company has also launched DayDream VR headset recently, we can expect them to release a version of the app which can run on it.
