The company has united with Goertek, an original design manufacturer (ODM) in order to develop the design of Snapdragon 820 VR. Qualcomm believes that the design is ready “to go to market quickly”. Besides that, it is also expecting the OEM partners to launch the commercial products soon after the reference design will be available by the end of 2016.

Hugo Swart, the Home Entertainment Business lead of Qualcomm said to ZDnet:

We at Qualcomm are strong believers in the VR market. […] We’re seeing increasing demand for standalone VR HMDs – a device that has all the processing plus connectivity, batteries – all you need for an immersive experience in a single device.

The popular hardware manufacturer is very confident that its Virtual Reality headset will be comparatively cheaper than the other leading VR gadgets in the market. However, it will rely on another game controller device.
