Digital Driving License and Vehicle Registration Certificate in DigiLocker app

The government of India had launched Digilocker app last year for the Indian citizens to store their certificates and documents safely. Today, the government integrated an option to add Vehicle Registration Certificate and Driving license in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The news was made public by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport.

This news is going to be a big relief to the people across the country. Because, hereafter, they will not have to carry the Driving license or other documents with them all the time. Instead, they can show all the necessary documents using the Digilocker app in their Smartphone. All they will have do is just sign up in the app using their mobile number and the process is easy as one-two-three.

The app will offer you around 1 GB storage and it will let you upload PAN card, Voter ID card, college certificates and more. It has 21,26,332 registered users with 24,11,702 uploaded documents and has issued over 4,26,73,232 documents as on 1st September 2016.

Shri Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Telecom Minister said:

The integration will bring a paradigm shift in the vision of paperless governance. It will serve to bring agility and efficiency to the entire process of issuance of driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates through IT enablement.

Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport, said:

This platform is a major step forward towards ensuring greater transparency and cutting down corruption and red-tapism. He said the move will benefit a large number of people by facilitating ease of access to the documents.
