Google Duo, the latest exciting video calling app by Google

Google showcased a new one-to-one video calling app, Google Duo at the Google I/O 2016 back in May this year. Now the company has released the app for both iOS and Android devices. The app depends on your phone number to start an account in it.

All the calls in Google Duo are end-to-end encrypted. Not just that, based on the bandwidth of your connection, the Duo will adjust the resolution of the call. If you are on a video call and moving from place to place, the app will allow you to switch between Wi-Fi and cellular networks without dropping the call.

Availability of Google Duo

Google said that the app will be released today and will be available across the world over the next few days. As of now, there is only a “Pre-register” button available in Google Play. By the time, you see this post, you might have installed the app already on your device or if you haven’t got it even then, all you will have to do is just wait.

The iOS version is not available in iTunes at present. It will be available later very soon. We will update you when it pops up on iTunes.

Google Duo Highlights

  • Simple interface: Pick a loved one and jump right in, with a simple interface that brings video to the forefront.
  • Knock Knock: See the caller before you pick up Duo’s live preview feature.
  • High-quality video: Experience faster and more reliable video calls whether you’re on Wi-Fi or on the go.
  • Cross-platform: Video calls all your friends across Android and iOS with just one simple app.

Amit Fulay, Group Product Manager, Google commented on the launch:

Video calling is the next best thing to being with someone in person. We have designed the interface to be simple, easy and welcoming. In places like India, it has been designed to adapt to the network connectivity conditions. We hope to make the experience of video calling more personal, inviting easy and smooth.
