Express WiFi Service, Facebook’s new baby in India

Facebook is working on bringing its Express Wifi Service in India. The company is holding discussions with the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for the commercial launch of the service. In collaboration with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the company has finished a pilot roll out of 125 public Wi-Fi hotspots in the rural India.

This campaign is headed by Mark Zuckerberg and the main goal of this program is to make Internet available in remote areas at affordable prices for small entrepreneurs. The Express Wi-Fi service currently lets the people to access fast, reliable and affordable internet plans from the local ISPs.

“Express Wifi empowers local entrepreneurs to help provide quality internet access to their neighbors and make a steady income. Working with local internet service providers or mobile operators, they’re able to use software provided by Facebook to connect their communities,” says a post on internet.org

India is one of the countries where Facebook is making a lot of business. The company’s “Free basics by Facebook” which was launched earlier was banned by the TRAI to maintain net neutrality in India.
