Mars was once more like our Earth, the latest evidence says

Mars was once more like our Earth

Our neighboring planet, Mars was once much like our Earth. At least, that’s what the latest evidence by the Curiosity Rover has all there to tell us. The US Agency’s Rover has found high levels of Manganese Oxides in the rocks of the Martian surface. This tells us that huge amounts of atmospheric oxygen used to exist on the Red Planet.

The Curiosity Rover had already found other evidences such as the existence of ancient lakes in the past and the latest discovery has strengthened its previous findings and claims that Mars was once more like our Earth.

Nina Lanza, Planetary Scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory and lead author on the study said, “The only ways on Earth that we know how to make these manganese materials involve atmospheric oxygen or microbes.”

Lanza continued to add, “These high-manganese materials can’t form without lots of liquid water and strongly oxidizing conditions.”

The author said, “Here on Earth, we had lots of water but no widespread deposits of manganese oxides until after the oxygen levels in our atmosphere rose due to photosynthesizing microbes.”

Thanks to the recent findings on Mars, we are getting closer to find the actual evidence of life in Mars. Do you think it is possible to visit Mars for a picnic or spend our vacation time in the near future? Let us know your views in the comments section below. We’d love to hear from you.
