RIP Java Plugin, because, Oracle Says It Is Killing the Java Plugin

Oracle announced that it has decided to put an end to its Java browser Plugin. The company said that the Plugin technology will be removed completely from the future Java SE release of Java Runtime Environment and Oracle JDK.

Oracle admitted this week that modern browsers do not depend entirely on Java Plugin and the plugins have grown to be old-fashioned as the browsers do not need them. Browsers like Chrome have already disabled Java Plugin in April, 2015. Therefore, Oracle wants the developers to find an alternative in other available technologies.

Don’t miss: Only Windows 10 to be available in the future CPUs.

“With modern browser vendors working to restrict and reduce plugin support in their products, developers of applications that rely on the Java browser plugin need to consider alternative options such as migrating from Java Applets (which rely on a browser plugin) to the plugin-free Java Web Start technology”, posted Oracle in its blog.

The Java Plugin works much like Adobe’s Flash. Earlier we reported that the Flash technology is all set to vanish in the next 2 years. In the recent past, both the Flash and Java Plugins have been prone to security attacks and have been a prey to security vulnerabilities.

However, this is not a good news for everyone. Because, there are a lot of organizations and enterprises that depend on the Java Plugin technology. So, it will be tough time ahead for the developers as an alternative has to be found very sooner.
