As, per the report from the National Kidney Foundation there are over 120,000 Americans currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant and a new individual is added to the national transplant waiting list in every 10 minutes. And, in the absence of donor registration, it is very tough decision for family to donate their organ to save the life of their loved ones. Since, each organ donor can save as many as eight lives and heal many more through the gifts of tissue and eye donation this software update on iPhone provides a complete view of your health and fitness data all in one place and ease the process of getting a donor.

Apple CEO Tim Cook told the CNBC Associated Press that “The new software will help ease a longstanding donor shortage. The problem hit for him after the death of the company co-founder Steve Jobs in 2011, as Steve had to endure an “excruciating” wait for a liver transplant in 2009. This software update will add an easy sign up and thus also encourage millions of iPhone owners to register as organ donors. The software will come to all U.S.-based iPhones when the company updates its mobile operating system this fall.”

The President & CEO of Donate Life America said that “On average, one person dies every hour in the United States waiting for an organ transplant because the demand for lifesaving transplants far exceeds the available supply of organs — and one donor can save as many as eight lives.”
