Whatsapp is now 100% free in all countries

WhatsApp has just announced in its official blog that its services will be absolutely free for all users across all countries. Around a billion people use the service daily around the globe. From a dad in US sharing the photos of his newborn, to a student in Indonesia checking with her friends back in home, to a doctor in India keeping in touch with her patients, people depend on WhatsApp as it is simple, fast and reliable.

WhatsApp had earlier made its services free in countries like India citing that a majority of people living in those countries do not use Debit/Credit cards. The same reason is cited once again in its official blog. WhatsApp has also made it clear that it won’t rely on third-party services to generate revenue. However, we all know that WhatsApp is certainly least bothered about generating revenue as it is owned by a billion dollar baby, Facebook.

WhatsApp is currently focussed on making its services much better. “It will start testing tools that will allow you to use WhatsApp to communicate with the businesses and organizations that you want to hear from. That could mean communicating with your bank to check whether a recent transaction was fraudulent, or with an airline about a delayed flight“, quotes the blog. Therefore it is very evident now that WhatsApp’s sole focus is on quality, accessibility and enhancements.

Earlier, the first year of WhatsApp was always free to use. However, to continue using WhatsApp, it used to charge $0.99 per year from the second year. WhatsApp’s decision to make its services free in countries like India has helped the company to be one of leading messaging services despite severe competition from Hike, Telegram etc.

A few weeks ago on New Year’s Eve, WhatsApp went down and the messages were delayed. This could also be one of the reasons behind why WhatsApp has come forward with a complete free decision.
